Utilizing realistic physics calculations for gravity and air deflection, the game was praised by real rocket scientists and had players in NASA and the ESA calling it a wonderful simulation. Part of the fun was the failures, and finally succeeding in a goal you had set for yourself was exhilarating due to the steep learning curve that the game throws at you.

Kerbal Space Program was wildly unique upon release. In 2012 a game that allowed players to create spaceships and attempt to send them to space was released, and a whole new generation of rocket enthusiasts was born.
